Myspace Blog - Getting Started
After you've set up your Myspace profile and logged in, it's a snap to start creating your Myspace blog. The Myspace blog has an incredible list of features you can edit and customize to give your blog the look you want.
From the Myspace profile editing page (found by clicking the "Home" link once you're logged in to your Myspace account), click "Manage Blog" in the editing box near the top of the page. Scroll down on the next page and you'll see a box labeled "My Controls". Click on "Customize Blog".
General Myspace Blog Settings
- Background Color - Click on the little color palette icon and select a background color for your Myspace blog from the pop-up box. You can also find the HTML code for your color by viewing this color chart.
- Alignment - Specifies whether your Myspace blog entires will appear aligned to the left, right or be centered on the page.
- Width Length - Specifies how wide you'd like your Myspace blog entries to appear on the page. You can select a number or a percent.
- Default Font - Use the dropdown here to help you choose a simple or a fancy font (the style of your text) for your blog.
- Normal Link - Choose what color the links will appear in your Myspace blog entries. You can also choose whether you'd like your links underlined.
- Visited Link - A "visited link" is a link that the user has already clicked on before. Here you can choose what color you'd like these links to be, as well as whether or not they should be underlined.
- Active Link - An active link is a link that is unclicked. Again, you can choose what color these will be whether or not they should be underlined in your blog entries.
- Blogs per Page - How many blog entries would you like displayed? Choose a number from 1-15.
Myspace Blog Header Settings
The header is a block or bar at the top of your Myspace blog that can have your blog's title, a message, or pretty much whatever you want it to say.
- No Custom Header - Check this box if you don't want a custom header at the top of your Myspace blog.
- Site Name - Enter your Myspace blog name here (i.e. Fonzi's Fun Blog). The title will show up on the left of your header.
- Site Name Font - Select the font style, color, and size you'd like to use for your blog layout.
- Tagline - The phrase you enter here (i.e. "I'm a lover, not a fighter!") will show up on the right of your header.
- Tagline Font - You guessed it. This is the font size, style, and color for your tagline.
- Border - If you'd like a border around your Myspace blog posts, choose a color for your border here.
- Interior - The background color of your blog header. You can make this the same background color of your blog posts or something entirely different.
- Your Own Header HTML - If you know how to create and edit style sheets, you can add your own CSS code here to truly customize your Myspace blog.
Myspace Blog Sidebar Settings
The sidebar is the area to the left of your Myspace blog posts that has your information in it. Decide what you want the world to know about you and enter it here.
- Side Module Position - Decide whether you'd like the sidebar on the left or the right side of your blog posts.
- Font Color - What color would you like your sidebar to be?
- Alignment - Choose whether you'd like your sidebar text centered within the sidebar or aligned to the left or right.
- Border - What color would you like your blog's sidebar border to be?
- Interior - Choose the background color for your sidebar.
- Show Gender - Choose whether you want your blog's readers to know your gender.
- Show Status - Shows whether you've logged into your MySpace account or Myspace blog recently.
- Show Age - Choose whether people can see how old you are or not.
- Show Sign - Your astology sign.
- Show City - Possibly important if you're looking locally for other Myspace-ers in your area.
- Show State - Choose whether or not to display your home state.
- Show Country - Choose whether your blog readers can see what country you're from.
- Show Signup Date - Show the date you originally signed up/registered for your Myspace account.
- Show Subscriptions - Show which Myspace blogs you're currently subscribed to so others can read them.
- Show Blog Groups - Shows a list of Myspace blog groups on MySpace that you're signed up for. Blog groups are groups of similar Myspace blogs.
Myspace Blog Post Settings
Your Myspace blog post area is where your blog posts will show up, so you want this to look sweet! Your fellow Myspace blog readers will thank you!
- Blog Background Color - The background color for all of your Myspace blog posts. You typically want to select a light color so your words are easy to read. If you'd like to select a darker background, make sure to change your font color to something that's readable.
- Spacer Color - This is the area at the top of your Myspace blog post area.
- Date Background Color - Choose the color for the bar that runs across the top of your Myspace blog post area where your date shows up.
- Date Format - Indicates how the date shows up on your page - whether it's month first, week day first, etc.
- Date Alignment - Choose whether you want the date aligned to the left, right, or center of your blog posts.
- Subject Font - Choose the font size, color, and style for the title of your blog posts as well as for the mood you're in.
- Subject Bold - Choose whether you'd like your blog post's title to stand out by bolding it.
- Time Format - At the bottom of each of your blog posts, the time shows up and you can choose whether you want it displayed using one of the 12 hour clock formats or one of the 24 hour clock formats.
- Time Position - Choose whether you'd like the time displayed at the top or the bottom of your Myspace blog posts.
- Blog Text Indent - How far in from the edge do you want your blog post indented?
Myspace Blog Comment Post Settings
If allowing people to post comments to your Myspace blog posts, then their comments will show up on your blog. Here you can decide what these posts will look like.
- Comment Profile Background Color - Choose the background color of the profile area in the comment post.
- Comment Background Color - What color do you want your reader's comment posts to be?
- Comment Spacer Color - Similar to your blog posts, a spacer is the line that runs across the top of the blog post area. Here, the spacer runs across the top of the comment section.
Myspace Blog Background Settings
You can add all kinds of cool stuff to your Myspace blog background to jazz up your blog posts. Here are just a few:
- Background Image - Just like your Myspace profile, you can use any online image as the background for your blog posts instead of just a boring color. Enter the image's web address here.
- Fixed Background - Choose whether or not you want the background image to scroll on your Myspace blog.
- Repeat Background - Choose whether or not your background image should repeat vertically, horizontally, both or not ("no-repeat").
- Music URL - Enter the web address of a song you've uploaded to the internet to play in the background of your Myspace blog. Just make sure you're not using copyrighted songs - you may get a visit from "The Man" if you do.
- Loop Music - Choose whether you'd like the song from your "Music URL" above to play over and over again. Uncheck this button to make your song play only once and then automatically stop.
Custom Blog Style Sheet
If you're an advanced user and are familiar with CSS (custom style sheets), this is where you are able to enter your code. If not, go ahead and leave this blank.
Note: this option is limited to 8000 characters and you should *not* add the <STYLE> tags around your code.
Saving Your Blog Settings
Once you're done customizing your Myspace blog with the settings above, click on the "Update" button at the bottom of the page. You can also click "Preview" first to see how everything will look before you save your new blog settings.
There are also Preview buttons along the way, allowing you see how minor changes and customizations will look without having to save all changes to your Myspace blog.
But that's just the beginning! To keep your readers coming back for more, don't forget to update your Myspace blog at least once a week.
